Pinewood Derby #2

Seth had his 2nd Pinewood Derby last night.  His car was called "The Dragon".  He designed it himself and Sam cut it out and sanded it for him.  Then Seth and I painted it.  He did a great job and loved that he came in 3rd place (yeah, all I wanted was for him to win atleast one race but not win them all because then you have to go to districts and that's a nightmare).  Here he is doing a skit with his den.

Swimming

Every Wednesday night we go swimming at our local YMCA.  It is the highlight of the kids week.  It is something that I am learning to like, not because I don't like swimming but because I HATE to be cold.  Getting out of the pool and into the dressing room is an ordeal, especially when you have to help three little kids get dressed and they are freezing their tooshes off too.  Anyway......it is getting better and tonight I actually didn't mind it, YEAH!  Here are some pictures from swimming, the kids hanging out in the pool and Kathryn waiting for the boys to get dressed.

What do you do in January?

January is a weird month at our house.  The holidays are over, it's not warm outside yet and there is not much to do.  We stay home most days and try to keep ourselves from getting too stir crazy.  Lately we have been trying new recipes...

(can you tell who's been helping me?), visiting and having friends over, working out at the gym (call us crazy but both Sam and I are training for a triathlon in August.  I am doing a relay one, the swimming part, with my sister and sister-in-law and Sam is doing all of it), organizing the house, reading books and trying out new hair-dos.  I tried this one out on Kathryn and we thought it was so cute.

Kathryn gets most of the new hair-dos because her hair is really thick and styles well.  Poor Sarah's hair is thin and wispy and doesn't hold curl.  She gets pretty simple hair-dos and gets kinds sad about it.  What do you do, those two girl's hair are so different!

Cabin Fever Day

One awesome thing Twin Falls does every January is Cabin Fever Day.  Many businesses all over town open up and they are free to try out their stuff.  Their is bowling, swimming, diving, golfing, and many others.  This year we tried a few new ones.  First we tried archery.  The kids really liked it.  They even had bows small enough for Luke to try.

Then we went to CSI's green houses and got to pick out 6 different kinds of plants and plant in containers to bring home.  Then we went to Hands On.  It is one of the girls most favorite places to go (we have only tried it out on Cabin Fever Day).  You get to pick out different kinds of ceramic pieces (everything from plates to vases to piggy banks to statues) and paint them.  They then fire them and you get to pick them up.  Afterwards we went to lunch at Artic Circle.  I *heart* that place because it is the only place in all of Twin Falls that has an indoor play place.

Then it was off to the Herrett Center to watch the Wild World of Weather at the Planetarium.  We had so much fun.  It was great to be with the kids, plus a great incentive to get all their chores done :)!

Reunion: Day 3

The third day we all went bowling.  Don't you love that picture of Kathryn?  I think it is so cute.  The kids loved bowling and Bentley, the youngest of the grandkids that bowled won.  He even beat Seth.  It was a lot of fun to watch them.  Luke just had fun sitting on everyone's lap and visiting with his aunts and uncles.

Happy Birthday Sam!!

Sam, as most of you know, is a New Years baby.  Every year we get to have a great party.  Since we were having our family reunion, my family decided to have a Japanese feast.

We had california sushi rolls, gyoza, stir fried vegies, egg rolls and fried rice.  It was so yummy and Sam loved it.  My sister Emily wants to become a Pastry Chef so she was in charge of Sam's cake and she made this:

Isn't it beautiful?  It also tasted awesome!!!  We all sang Happy Birthday and Sam opened his gifts.

Then we played games until midnight, Catan, Tri-ominoes, Indian Leg Wrestling and had a great time.  Happy Birthday Sam, we love you!  Thanks for being such a great dad and husband.

Reunion: Day 2

The second day of the reunion was New Year's Eve and Sam's birthday.  We played games in Grandpa's shop, kickball and frisbee.  We went swimming in the morning at the Y and had a great time, especially the kids.  The rest of the day was spent playing lots of games, eating lots of yummy food and making quite the messes (atleast the kids).
