Happy 6th Birthday Luke

See this super cute face with a super cute birthday hat--he turned 6 last week.
He has been very excited for his birthday.  He has been very specific in what he wanted too for his presents and for his food.  He sure knows what he wants--which is good, most of the time! :)

We celebrated a little early with Aunt Emily and we let him open half his presents plus his card from her.  He loves $ and was so excited to get some from her!

I have started giving them their books from the year before to them for their birthdays. Only way I can remember to get them done.

The day before his birthday he really wanted to help me make his cake--which means he just really wants to lick the beaters :).
Then the next day, with strict instructions on what to make for breakfast (breakfast burritos), lunch (Costco with his friend Chase--they split a hot dog and a piece of pizza and were quite silly in the process),

and dinner (boughten chicken nuggets from Costco, homemade fries, and carrot sticks) we decorated his cake (which he was also quite specific on--which I admit I don't mind because it makes it so much easier for me)
and had our neighbors over for some cake and ice cream.

He said he had the best day ever.  I love to hear that! Afterwards this is what he did the whole time:
build legos.
Luke here are 6 things we love about you!
1. Your independence.  You know what you want in life and are not afraid to go after it.
2. Your love to for your brother and sisters.  You think they are great and I love to see how much you love to be with them.
3. You love to read.  Everyday you get excited to do your homework mostly because you get to read a book to me.
4. Your love of knowledge.  You love to ask questions and figure out what is happening and you are not satisfied until you understand it completely.
5. Your love of building.  Wow can you make some pretty cool legos.  Definitely take after Seth that way and it's pretty amazing.
6. The way you say forgot which no matter how much we tell you comes out "freegot".  It's so cute!

Luke we are so happy to have you in our family!

A Sister's Weekend

We were very lucky this past weekend to have my two youngest sisters come for a visit.  The kids have been looking forward to it for a month now and the time finally arrived.

The weather was absolutely beautiful so we took several walks with the kids (and some "adult walks" to the convenience store :). We put a puzzle together and played games.

Friday night was our Stake Family Dance.  My sisters were good sports to come with us and we had a blast making some crowns for ourselves and dancing like crazies. So much so that several people asked if they could join our group because we looked like we were having so much fun!

Saturday I took all the girls and went to Chick-Fil-A for a fun date (forgot the camera--dang it!) and Sam took the boys to 5 Guys. We sat and talked and enjoyed hanging out.  Then we watched Luke play in his basketball game.
Then it was home to work on "A wee bit o' Scottish on ye plate".  My sister Emily for her final in one of her culinary arts class was to prepare (in all it's forms) a scottish meal for at least 6 people.  She chose us and we were very excited to help her out :)
We ate bubble and squeak patties for an appetizer, cock a'leekie soup, dundee chops, clapshot, cheddar biscuits, and apple crumble.  The kids actually liked most of it and it was super fun to cook in the kitchen with my sisters and enjoy rocking out to some Scottish songs.
 The cooks :)
Sunday Natalie had to go home but we had 1/2 a party with Luke so Aunt Emily could be there.  We made homemade vanilla ice cream--which he is in love with.
See.  That's his I am way excited and can't hardly wait face.
His cute drawing that Aunt Emily made for him.
And we let him open two of his presents.  He thought that was pretty cool.
Sunday night Emily and I stayed up to watched the season finale of Downton Abby. Boy were we both ticked at the end (not to mention a crying mess!). Gosh how do they make us so involved in the character's lives.  Neither one of us could go to sleep after that we stayed up and talked.

Monday since everyone had the day off, we just hung around and had a good time.  Emily and I went on another walk, we took the kids to the dollar movie, and then Emily had to head off.  What a great weekend we had.  Thanks ladies for coming!!

Luke's Basketball

Luke decided that he wanted to try basketball this year.  Sam was his coach and he got to play with lots of friends from his school class.
He hasn't made a shot yet but he loves trying to get rebounds and he pretty awesome at defense (I guess that's what happens when you "stick to your guy like glue" :).
 Everybody waiting for a rebound.
 Trying to steal the ball.

He also loves when it's his turn to dribble the ball down the court.  He has improved dramatically from the beginning and can walk and dribble at the same time and even keep his eyes up!

It's always such a riot to watch the kindergarteners play.  I love it!
