July 24th @ 4:15pm. The Big Day!!! I was way more excited than Luke, he didn't even know that they were going to take it off. I think he had completely resigned himself to this cast and I think he thought that this was never going to come off. Here he is waiting in the Dr.'s office for them to take him back. (side note: when we showed up for the appt. they looked at me like I was crazy. I was thinking what is going on? From what I could gather, they thought they were done for the day so they weren't ready for him, the room was all cleaned up, lights off, things put away, etc. but I was like no way are you sending us home. I have been counting down for 5 weeks!! Anyway, they got everything back out and away we went).
Seth, Sarah and Kathryn playing while we were waiting in the "cast room".
This was right after they finished taking it off. Luke absolutely hated the machine. They had to make about 6 cuts to get if off and then he was so freaked out that his legs could move. Every time they tried to look at his leg he would lose it again. Finally they gave him one of those hospital towels and as long as that covered his legs and nobody tried to look at them he was okay.
HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While I was writing this Luke started walking again. He has been crawling since the day after they took his cast off but we haven't been able to get him to walk on his own and this morning he just stood up and started going. Hallelujah!
