In our area each High School has a massive rock that sits outside the school. It is regularly grafittied and the kids love it.
Our school didn't want a rock, they wanted something that represented our school more. So after 7 years they decided on a phoenix (our school mascot).
Our art teachers and students created the design and put it together. It is huge pieces of medal all welded together and looks pretty awesome!!
The whole school was invited to the inagural event to spray paint it and light it on fire. Our kids were so excited and really wanted to go. It was quite a cold evening but the fire department showed up so we would be "safe" and everyone went to town.
The kids covered it in paint and they loved it. Afterwards the art teachers covered it in lighter fluid and a homemade concoction (yeah!! don't ask and hence the fire engine--haha!!). Then it was on to the fire at dark. It was awesome and so fun. The kids loved being there!!
