What a long, exhausting, fun day--at least for the adults. We were up and out of the house by 8:30 that morning to start on the traditional McIntyre corn freezing event. And it's truly an event.
Everyone helped pick and shuck, including the kiddos. They did pretty good especially because we were feeding all the shucks to the cows.
After that it was time to start the "process". We had lots of help (my sisters, sister-n-laws, and my aunt). I just have one question though. Why is corn so darn sticky? Okay I know the answer but still...it makes clean up a chore. But the best part was that my dad sent up one of his workers to do the clean up for us, nothing could be more heavenly than that!
Emily and Jessica were in charge of the cooking and dumping into the cool off water.
Sweet bucket huh? We usually use a trough for animals but the kids get into it and get soaking wet so my dad cam up with this and it worked great. Can you see how full it is?
Then it was on to cutting. We use to use electric knives but after being shocked by them and them getting too hot to handle we resorted to good knives.
I love this picture of my mom's hands. They work so hard and represent so much!
My mom's sister was able to come help us the whole time and we had a great time reminiscing.
And then it wouldn't be a McIntyre event without several trips to Maverick for pop because fountains are way better than cans. Right Tara?
From this it went into bags (230 I might add) and then it was feet up and lounging for the rest of the day. We were bushed but I'm so glad to have this yumminess in my freezer!
